Making India Green by Growing a Million Trees
Combating climate change and restoring ecosystems through large-scale reforestation efforts.
Project Overview
At Samarpit Foundation, we have set an ambitious goal: to make India greener by planting over a million trees across the country. This large-scale afforestation initiative, called "Mission Vriksharopan", is focused on restoring degraded lands, increasing biodiversity, and promoting environmental sustainability while actively involving communities in the process.
By leveraging scientific plantation techniques, community participation, and technology-driven monitoring, we are working towards a future where every tree planted contributes to a healthier, greener, and more sustainable India.
Why This Mission Matters?
- π Combating Climate Changes Trees absorb carbon dioxide and help regulate temperature, reducing the impact of global warming.
- π§ Water Conservation Tree roots improve groundwater retention, prevent soil erosion, and help restore natural water cycles.
- πΎ Enhancing Soil Fertility Afforestation improves soil health, reducing the risks of desertification and making agricultural land more productive.
- π¦ Biodiversity Protection Planting native trees supports wildlife, pollinators, and ecological balance.
- π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Community Empowerment Engaging local farmers, women, and youth in plantation activities creates jobs and boosts sustainable livelihoods.
Large-Scale Tree Plantation Drives
Our plantation efforts are being carried out in:
- π± Rural Areas & Villages β Restoring degraded lands and improving the agricultural ecosystem.
- ποΈ Forests & Wildlife Corridors β Strengthening biodiversity and preventing habitat loss.
To date, over 250,000 trees have been planted under this initiative, with many more to come.
Community Involvement & Sustainable Livelihoods
We believe that afforestation should be a community-driven movement rather than a one-time event. Our efforts focus on:
- π¨βπΎ Training Farmers on Agroforestry β Teaching sustainable farming practices to integrate trees with crops.
- πΏ Tree Guardians Program β Engaging local youth to care for newly planted trees, ensuring a high survival rate.
Through these initiatives, we plan to generate jobs in rural India.
Scientific & Sustainable Plantation Methods
Our afforestation projects are guided by scientific research and sustainable techniques, including:
- π Miyawaki Method β Creating dense, fast-growing mini-forests that mature in just a few years.
- π¦ Drip Irrigation & Water Conservation β Ensuring efficient water use to maintain tree health.
- π³ Native & Climate-Resilient Species β Prioritizing trees like Neem, Peepal, Mango, and Banyan that naturally thrive in Indian soil.
These methods ensure that our tree-planting efforts are self-sustaining and long-lasting.
Partnering with Government, Corporates & Institutions
To maximize our impact, we collaborate with:
- π Government Programs β Aligning with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and the National Afforestation Program.
- π’ Corporate CSR Initiatives β Partnering with companies for large-scale tree-planting campaigns.
- π« Educational Institutions β Involving students and researchers in afforestation and climate education.
These partnerships help us expand our reach and accelerate tree planting across India.
Technology-Driven Monitoring & Impact Assessment
To ensure transparency and effectiveness, we use:
- π Geo-Tagging of Trees β Tracking every planted tree using satellite mapping and AI-driven analysis.
- π Data-Driven Survival Rate Monitoring β Using analytics to optimize planting locations and species selection.
- π± Community Reporting App β Allowing locals to report tree health, request support, and track plantation progress.
Our goal is to achieve a 90% survival rate for every tree planted, ensuring long-term ecological benefits.
Future Goals & Expansion Plans
Since launching in 2017, our tree plantation initiative has planted over 500,000 trees across India. Independent assessments show an average survival rate of 80%, significantly higher than many similar initiatives.
We've reforested over 200 hectares of degraded land, created green belts around 50 schools, established 20 community-managed nurseries, and trained 1,000 community members in tree care and maintenance.
Future Goals & Expansion Plans
- β Plant additional 1 million trees by 2035 to make India one of the worldβs greenest nations.
- β Expand afforestation to all 28 states, focusing on drought-prone and deforested regions. selection.
- β Set up 100+ community-lednurseries to make tree saplings accessible and affordable.F
- β Introduce rainwater harvesting projectsalongside plantations to improve groundwater recharge.
